Turn a video into an animated GIF

Drop a video and get back a short animated GIF that loops on its own and plays inline almost anywhere, with no sound. It all happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no watermark.

Jak to funguje

Video to GIF in three steps

Turn a section of a video into an animated GIF right in the browser. Pick the clip, make the GIF, and save it, with no upload and no account.

Step 1: Drop your video

Choose or drag in an MP4, WebM, MOV, or MKV. It opens right away because it stays on your device.

Step 2: Make the GIF

Set the start and end to the part you want, then pick a width and frame rate. The tool samples those frames into an animated GIF. A smaller width and lower frame rate keep the file small.

Step 3: Download the GIF

Save your .gif, ready to share. It loops on its own, with no player and no sound. No account, no email, and no watermark.

What you can do with the video to GIF converter

Turn a section of a video into a short animated GIF that loops on its own and plays inline almost anywhere, with no player and no sound.

Loops inline on most sites

A GIF plays on its own wherever an image can go: a chat, a doc, a README, a wiki. There is no video player to load, no sound, and no click to start. From an MP4 or any video file, you get a short clip that just runs.

Control the size yourself

A GIF stores every frame at up to 256 colors, so it grows fast. You set the width and frame rate, so a short clip at 480 px and 12 fps stays small enough to share.

Made on your device

The whole GIF is built in your browser with WebCodecs. Your video is never uploaded, so there is no wait on a server and nothing to leak.

Common questions about video to GIF

How do I convert a video to GIF?

Open the tool, drop in your video, and set the start and end to the part you want. Pick a width and frame rate, and the tool samples those frames into an animated GIF. When it is ready, save the .gif. It all happens in your browser, so there is no upload step and no account to create. An MP4 is the most common input, but WebM, MOV, and MKV work the same way.

Is it free?

Yes. The converter is free to use, with no sign-up, no trial, and no watermark on the result.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The GIF is built on your device with WebCodecs, so the video never leaves your browser and nothing is stored on a server.

Why turn a video into a GIF?

A GIF loops on its own and plays inline wherever an image can go: a chat, a doc, a README, a wiki. There is no video player to load, no sound, and no click to start. It is the simplest way to drop a few seconds of motion into a place that only takes images.

Will the GIF be smaller than the video?

Often not. A GIF stores every frame and is capped at 256 colors, so a GIF of a long or high-resolution clip can be large, sometimes larger than the source video. That is normal for the format. Keep the clip short and the width and frame rate modest, and the GIF stays small. A short clip at 480 px and 12 fps is a good balance.

Can I make a high-quality, 4K, or 60 fps GIF?

The tool offers frame rates up to 24 fps and widths up to 640 px, plus an Original option that matches your source width. There is no 60 fps setting, because a GIF is capped at 256 colors and balloons in size at high frame rates, so it is not the format for that. If you want crisp, high-frame-rate motion, keep the clip as a video instead.

How long a clip can I turn into a GIF?

There is no hard limit, because nothing is uploaded, but the tool builds up to 300 frames per GIF. At 12 fps that is about 25 seconds; a higher frame rate fits less in the same 300 frames. Keeping the clip short is also what keeps the GIF a sensible size.

Can I make a GIF on iPhone?

Yes. The tool runs in your phone browser, so it works on iPhone and Android with no app to install. Pick your video, set the clip, and the GIF saves to your downloads or files.

Does the GIF have sound?

No. A GIF has no audio at all, so the result is silent and just loops the picture. If the sound matters, keep the clip as a video file instead of turning it into a GIF.
